Paul Louis Jonas, 68, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:53 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.
He was born on December 12, 1955 to the late Louis and Juanita (Barrier) Jonas in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident.
Paul graduated in 1975 from Riley High School in South Bend and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976 -1982.
He retired in January 2014, as a Sergeant with the St. Joseph County Police Department, after 29 years of service.
On April 12, 1980, he married Linda Golubski in South Bend, IN. Paul is survived by his loving wife of nearly 44 years, Linda Jonas of South Bend, IN; two sons, Ryan and Cameron Jonas, both of South Bend, IN; two granddaughters, Amelia and Rylee Jonas; one sister, Patricia (Rick) Bartley of Kokomo, IN and their son, Landon Bartley; and two brothers, Ronald and Donald Jonas, both of South Bend, IN.
Paul’ s dream job was being a police officer, and he achieved and lived his dream. He was very proud of his time in the Marine Corps. Paul loved watching both Notre Dame and Green Bay Packers football games. He also enjoyed working on his classic cars, taking family vacations to Florida, but most of all, spending time with his family- especially his granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2024 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.
A Catholic Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, where Military Honors will take place.
